Ao Air Engineering’s Positive Air Pressure Mask Development

Several years ago, Jerry Mauger had an idea for a better way to protect against air-borne particulates. He envisioned a positive air pressure mask, and his concept quickly attracted a team of innovators who were excited to bring the idea to life.

To create a functional and aesthetically pleasing mask, the team needed to balance protection and comfort while also considering the product’s commercial viability. To achieve this, Memory® was brought on board to develop the initial industrial design of the mask.

Working closely with the Ao Air Engineering team, Memory® operated cross-border, with engineering taking place in China and design in New Zealand. The team engaged in numerous interactions and tested hundreds of prototypes to research use cases, technologies, and materials.

By working side-by-side with the engineering team, design decisions could be made in conjunction with commercialization, ensuring a viable product without the typical time-consuming delays associated with siloed departments.
