Ao Air Engineering

Ao Air Engineering

The idea for a positive air pressure mask was conceived some years ago after Jerry Mauger decided there must be a better way to protect against air-born particulates. The concept became a magnet for people excited by innovation and a team quickly formed to bring the idea to life.

Memory® was engaged in developing the initial industrial design of the product. Working closely with the Aō team through multiple interactions, our team operated cross-border, with engineering in China & design in New Zealand to bring the product to life.

Research around use cases, technologies and materials were all tested through hundreds of prototypes—all working to balance the need for a functional and protective mask with the comfort and aesthetic appeal of something to be worn on the face.

With design and engineering working side by side, design decisions could be made in conjunction with commercialisation, ensuring a viable product without the usual time-suck associated with siloed departments.
